Goals: describe the main goals of the good practice

a) Distribution brochure: Je ziet het pas als je het gelooft. (on the prevention of and actions against elder abuse) , LPBO, NIZW, Utrecht, 2005.

b) an elder abuse  information and consultation desk in 90 % of the Dutch municipalities

Target Group: Who does the good practice address

Target groups:

All (ca. 430) municipalities in the Netherlands.

Professionals and organizations in the field of elder abuse and domestic violence.

Approach: describe the implementation of  the good practice

Approach: the so-called 2 A- formula:

  1. Ambassador touring the country
  2. Adoption of Action against elder abuse by municipalities and local and regional organizations.

Actions:

a) Using stakeholders in elvery district;

b) Joining forces with existing organizations and networks;

c) Reminding organizations of their engagement, expertise and responsibilities;

d) Appointing an ambassador for meetings, contacts and tailored consultations.

e) Informing collaboration partners and target groups; 

f) Informing the field and the public, nationwide;

g) Composing and distributing  news letters and factsheets.

Collaboration of two knowledge institutes and one expert  (ambassador):

a) TransAct, after 2007: MOVISIE, national knowledge institute in the field of local policy, action against domestic violence, action against elder abuse (Maria van Bavel)

b) NIZW after 2007 VILANS knowledge institute long-term care, elderly care (Theo Royers)

c) National Ambassador, Mirjam van Dongen, also chairperson of  het Landelijk Platform Bestrijding Ouderenmishandeling (National platform Action Against Elder Care, expert in networking, consulting, presenting, training).

Nationwide distribution has reached 94 % of all municipalities.

  1. Strategic distribution brochure
  2. Growing number of municipalities with an information and consultation desk (from 32 % ton 94 %)
  3. Linking reports of elder abuse to national registration domestic violence
  4. Ongoing consultations and tailormade presentations 
  5. More (media) exposure on the subject
  6. A clear picture of the current situation, on a local and national level. 
  7. International  participation, for example by joining in European conferences on Elder Abuse and neglect
  8. Expanding network to a nationwide web of information and consultation desks (either as part of the Domestic violence agencies or centres for welfare for the elderly).
