FINAL MEETING ‘EUROPEAN’

On the 29th of November 2011 the final results of the project are presented to Members of Parliament and international experts on the final meeting of EuROPEAN.

Elder abuse is a major issue in our society, that never can be accepted. It's a violation of human rights. Within the project 10 organisations from 9 different countries worked together. The results are an online database with 40 'good practices', recommendations to the European Union and her members and an overview of the cultural differences and backgrounds of the involved countries to create awareness and to break the taboo also in the other member states of the EU. The EU can take on a more coordinating role. But there is also the need for integrated programs on national level. In The Netherlands, Ireland and Austria this is already the case.

The report with the results and recommendations are handed over to Sven Matzke, representative of the European Commission and Directorate-General Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion which funded the project, Lambert van Nistelrooij, MEP and Chairman of the Intergoup on Ageing and Marjan Sedmak, President of Age Platform Europe.
